June 5th, 2025 – On May 28, 2025, the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) ruled against the tariffs imposed under four Executive Orders issued earlier in 2025 targeting illicit drug trafficking and trade imbalances:
- EO 14193 – Tariffs to address illicit drugs from the northern border
- EO 14194 – Tariffs related to the southern border
- EO 14195 – Tariffs targeting China’s synthetic opioid supply chain
- EO 14257 – Reciprocal tariffs to address U.S. trade deficits
The court blocked the enforcement of these tariff orders, including any amendments.
The U.S. government has appealed the decision, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has temporarily stayed the CIT’s ruling while it considers the government’s motion.
Additionally, a related case was decided on May 29, 2025, by the U.S. District Court for D.C., which is also under appeal. Further guidance is expected from CBP.
